Druckmann recently hinted at the possibility of a third installment in the series. He suggested that this new chapter could not only extend the narrative but also redefine public perceptions of video games. However, he tempered expectations by indicating that while the project is under consideration, he is inclined towards developing a new intellectual property. This new venture, much like its predecessors, aims to reshape how fans perceive video games.

Looking ahead, Druckmann shared Sony’s strategic vision for Naughty Dog. The goal is to establish the studio as a pioneer of innovation in the video game industry over the next decade. Innovation lies at the heart of Naughty Dog’s philosophy, and Druckmann emphasized this point. Despite potential challenges, he believes that artificial intelligence (AI) will play a pivotal role: “AI is poised to revolutionize content creation, albeit with ethical challenges. It will enable us to craft more nuanced dialogues and characters, expanding our creative horizons. However, precise use of these tools is paramount to achieve desired outcomes.”

Druckmann highlighted the integration of video game technologies into virtual sets, enhancing efficiency by reducing the need for physical sets. As game assets become more realistic, translating them into other media will become seamless. This could mean extracting environments from games for use in other media or enabling actors to interact with virtual environments via headsets. Technological advancements also facilitate global collaboration and real-time feedback, with remote working tools proving instrumental during the pandemic. For instance, Druckmann supervised the production of ‘The Last of Us’ season two from Los Angeles, overseeing operations in Canada remotely.

Naughty Dog’s ambition extends beyond its current successes, as it strives to set new industry standards with its forthcoming projects. These endeavors represent a commitment to delivering innovative gaming experiences, underscoring the studio’s relentless pursuit of excellence.
