Square Enix is at a critical juncture following the disappointing sales of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Final Fantasy XVI. Despite the current trend within the studio to release multiple titles across various platforms, such as Octopath Traveler 1 and 2 and Kingdom Hearts, the development of new games continues internally.
In an interview with Gamer.nl, Naoki Yoshida shared insights about ongoing projects within his division, Creative Business III. Yoshida announced that his division is currently working on several titles and even hinted that two new games will be revealed to the public soon. However, he did not provide any specific dates for these announcements: “We are also working on some games that have not yet been announced. Given the structure of our team, we cannot work on many games simultaneously, but we will continue to do our best. There may soon be announcements about two new games we are working on.”
Currently, persistent rumors suggest an imminent announcement of either a Final Fantasy IX Remake or a Final Fantasy Tactics title. While the former is the favorite for an upcoming reveal, caution is advised. However, as often happens in the gaming world, rumors tend to come true.
The coming weeks will likely provide more information, especially with the arrival of several events.
