Ubisoft may have discovered the secret formula with XDefiant. If you’re not familiar with it, XDefiant is the latest first-person shooter from the studio, available for free on PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series. This free-to-play game is already making a name for itself.
While Ubisoft has not yet released official player count statistics, Insider Gaming has provided some insights. Journalist Tom Henderson revealed that XDefiant attracted 8 million unique players in its first week of existence. This figure is astonishing, especially considering Ubisoft internally expected around 5 million players. Thus, the game has far exceeded their expectations.
In the coming days, we will likely gain a clearer picture, but it appears that XDefiant has the potential to compete with one of this year’s surprises, Helldivers 2.
The technical issues some players have encountered do not seem to have had a significant impact so far. Ubisoft has assured that further improvements will be made in the coming weeks. Initial improvements were already noticeable with the launch of Season 1, which addressed various bugs and enhanced the gaming experience.
As XDefiant continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see if it maintains its momentum and solidifies its place in the highly competitive FPS market.
